Tracing the footprint of knowledge spillover: Evidence from U.S.-China collaboration in nanotechnology
نویسندگان
چکیده
The impact of international collaboration on research performance has been extensively explored over the past two decades. Most research, however, focuses on quantity and citation-based indicators. Using the turnover of keywords, this study develops an integrative approach, tracking and visualizing the shift of the research stream, and tests it within the context of U.S.–China collaboration in nanotechnology. The results show evidence in support of the linkage between the emergence of a new research stream of Chinese researchers with the event of U.S.–China collaboration. We also find that the triggered research stream diffused further via extended coauthorship. Policy implications for science and technology development and resource allocation in the United States and China are discussed.

Physically Proximate or Culturally Cohesive? Geography, Ethnic Ties, and Innovation in China
Recent scholarship suggests that collaboration between a firm’s headquarters personnel and indigenous overseas inventors enhances innovation by the latter. We explore how headquarters inventors’ physical proximity and intrafirm ethnic networks influence this knowledge spillover. Data from 104 U.S. multinational firms show that collaboration between inventors in the U.S. and on-site collaboratio...

China’s status as a scientific power, particularly in the emerging area of nanotechnology, has become widely accepted in the global scientific community. The role of knowledge spillover in China’s nanotechnology development is generally assumed, albeit without much convincing evidence. Very little has been investigated on the different mechanisms of knowledge spillover. Utilizing both cross-sec...

The spatial spillover effect of technical efficiency and its influencing factors for China’s mariculture — based on the partial differential decomposition of a spatial durbin model in the coastal provinces of China
Using mariculture data from China’s nine coastal provinces from 2003 to 2015, this paper first evaluates the technical efficiency through data envelopment analysis (DEA). Then, this paper analyses the spatial spillover effect of technical efficiency and its influencing factors with a spatial panel Durbin model (SDM). The results indicate that there are obvious regional differences in the techni...
متن کاملOrganizational Learning and Knowledge Spillover in Innovation Networks: Agent-Based Approach (Extending SKIN Framework)
In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...
